The Promise

“It was like a shadow where my fears lay and yet I felt a sense of peace and certainty”.

The Promise draws out our most elemental fears and hopes when faced with the prospect of our own passing. Regardless of religious persuasion, we all invest in the embellishment of the spirit. Our hope is that our lives will be celebrated and that our spirit will continue – if only in the memory of others.
Through the transformation of wooden packing crates into a series of light boxes, the exhibition offers a personal passage from one realm to the next. Through the presence of a peephole, viewers will be given a ‘different’ way of seeing, providing the viewers with a glimpse into these forbidden or unfamiliar worlds.
